Editorial Review:
Album Description: The 2008 self-titled debut album of Jennifer Kate Hudson reflects her high-powered soulful style voice which is transcendent and timeless. Guests features on the album include Fantasia on "I'm His Only Woman", Ludacris on "Pocketbook", plus the highlights version of "And I am Telling You I'm Not Going" from Dreamgirls. Jennifer first gained notice as one of the finalists on the third season of the FOX television series American Idol. She went on to star as Effie White in the 2006 motion picture adaptation of the musical Dreamgirls for which she won numerous awards including an Academy Award, a Golden Globe Award, a BAFTA and a SAG Award. 13 tracks.

I love American Idol, and I voted for Jennifer Hudson to go thru to the finals. So I had to order her CD. It's awesome!!

AFTER THE LONG WAIT FOR THIS CD, IT IS A HUGE LET DOWN. JENNIFER IS A BETTER SINGER THEN THESE SONGS. ONLY ONES WORTHWHILE ARE SPOTLIGHT, AND I AM TELLING YOU AND THE GOSPEL SONG. OTHER THEN THAT IT'S WORTHLESS AND A WASTE OF HER VOICE.

I was so excited when Jen's CD came out in September. I purchased 5 copies at first, and a few more after that (as Christmas presents). I was hoping for more mid-tempo songs like Spotlight or What's Wrong, but thought that Pocketbook was definitely a surprise (a welcomed one). I probably have listed to "Invisible" at least a 200 times, that would definitely have to be my favorite and I absolutely love "If ... Read More

Just to echo what many others have said -- these are lousy songs that are completely unworthy of J.H.'s wonderful voice. I don't even think "Spotlight" is very good! Her record label had an opportunity for a Whitney Houston-type blockbuster, with an audience already in place, eagerly awaiting this album -- and they totally blew it. I'm especially surprised that Clive Davis couldn't do a better job.

I didn't know what to expect with Jennifer's debut album, but boy did she surprise me!!! Her album is so refreshing from what's out today. Her voice is just the right tone, tempo and pitch for every single song on this cd! I bought it a week ago and it's still in my cd player.
My favorite songs are:
Spotlight
If This Isn't Love
Giving Myself
What's Wrong (Go Away)
My Heart
I'm His Only Woman (I LOVE this song!! Fantasia was just the person to have ... Read More
